A flower garden surrounded by nature will help you forget the stress of everyday life and refresh your mind and body. It’s a town next to my parents’ house, so I go there almost every year! The colorful tulips are truly soothing. Since it is located in the eastern part of Hokkaido, I think there are many people who would like to go there but are unable to do so. We will also introduce how to get there from Sapporo, so we hope you will enjoy a relaxing moment surrounded by beautiful flowers and lush greenery, with a pleasant breeze blowing.

Access to Kamiyubetsu Tulip Park

If you come by car such as a rental car

If you are driving, first take the toll road to Engaru.

<If coming from Sapporo>
If you are coming from Sapporo Station, take the expressway from Sapporo IC on the Hokkaido Expressway and continue along the lane all the way to Pippu JCT.
At Pippu IC, take the left lane .
The toll road ends at Hifu. After that, it is a free road until Engaru IC (last exit).
After getting off at Engaru IC, turn left at the end. (If you turn right, you will see Engaru Roadside Station. This is also recommended!)
There will be a traffic light, so turn right there.
After a short distance, you will come to a traffic light, so turn left and continue on National Route 242 for about 12 km.
As you pass through the town of Engaru and enter Kamiyubetsu, you will see tulips planted in rows on both sides of the road, and as you continue along the road, you will see a tulip park on your right. arrival! !

<If coming from Chitose Airport>
From Hokkaido Route 77, take the Hokkaido Expressway to the Chitose IC and proceed toward Sapporo.
Proceed towards Asahikawa at Sapporo JCT. From Sapporo JCT, please refer to “If you are coming from Sapporo” above.

It takes about 3 and a half hours from Sapporo to Tulip Park.
But it’s time without a break.
In the parents’ house being Engaru, so I’ve been there many times, but it takes a little longer if you take a restroom break along the way.
It depends on how long you take breaks, I think it will take about 4 hours to arrive if you don’t stay too long just for a bathroom break.

On the way from Sapporo to Asahikawa, there is the Sunagawa Highway Oasis.
There are restrooms and rest areas, as well as a shopping area where you can purchase local specialties and souvenirs. You can get Hokkaido-like products and tourist souvenirs!

It’s okay when the tulips bloom, when winter comes, it will take quite a while depending on road conditions and snowfall.
There was a time when I couldn’t even get on the expressway due to a blizzard and it took me almost 7 hours to drive on a regular road…
For those who come to eastern Hokkaido in winter, please check the weather forecast and road conditions carefully and drive safely.

By JR and Bus
First, let’s go to Engaru.
The only JR train that can go there without changing trains is the JR train in the early morning, once a day.
Other than that, there is transfer flight at Asahikawa.
It may be good if you are coming while sightseeing, but if you are going without stopping anywhere, it may be better to take JR train in the early morning.

It takes about 15 minutes from Engaru to the bus.
From the Engaru station to the bus terminal is a straight line and takes less than 5 minutes on foot, so there is no need to worry about getting lost.

Kamiyubetsu Tulip Park, a flower paradise painted on the canvas of nature

Kamiyubetsu Tulip Park is located in Yubetsu-cho, Hokkaido, near Hokkaido’s largest lake, Saroma Lake. With a strong desire to “leave tulips for future generations,” we have now planted 700,000 tulips of 200 varieties on a vast site with a total area of 125,000 hectares, approximately 70,000 hectares. .
A tulip fair is held from May every year, and it is a famous flower spot that attracts many visitors.
The best time to see the flowers is usually from mid-to-late May.
However, depending on the weather and flowering conditions, the timing of the event may change.

After walking around the park and enjoying the tulips, it’s a good idea to relax and enjoy some delicious food!

You should also visit Lake Saroma, a quiet and charming lakeside that shines in the unexplored region of the north.

Finally, when you come to Tulip Park, be sure to also visit Lake Saroma.
Lake Saroma is the third largest lake in the country, and its magnificent scenery will captivate you.
There is Mt. Horoiwa, 376 meters above sea level, which is located almost in the center of Lake Saroma’s coast, and there is a Lake Saroma Observation Deck near the top of the mountain, from which you can see the entire Lake Saroma.
In the depths of Lake Saroma, you can see the Sea of Okhotsk and even the Shiretoko Mountain Range.
